American-born pianist Alexander Thomas has performed throughout Italy, Spain, Canada and the Eastern United states, appearing in Symphony Hall (Boston), Steinway Hall (New York), the National Opera Center (New York), and the Koger Center for the Arts (Columbia). During his study at the University of South Carolina he was granted the Mary Curtis Hawes Award for outstanding improvement and quality contribution to the school of music and shortly thereafter joined USC鈥檚 Community Music School. In recognition of his teaching, he has been appointed positions at New York University and Boston University where he founded 鈥淏U InterStudio,鈥 an initiative that organized educational and performance opportunities for students as an integrated part of the larger Boston community.
Mr. Thomas has had the privilege of working with a list of outstanding faculty including Marina Lomazov, Alexander Korsantia, Jose Ramon Mendez, Luiz de Moura Castro, and Pavel Nersessian. Additionally, he has appeared in masterclasses with Alexander Kobrin, Antonio Pompa-Baldi, John Perry, and Vladimir Feltsman. Mr. Thomas strongly supports collaboration with composers, having recently worked with Michael Finnissy and Nicholas Patrick Quigley for which his recordings of Quigley鈥檚 Interventions were reviewed by BU Today, Boston Hassel, and The Herald News. Currently residing in Boston, MA., Mr. Thomas maintains an active performing and teaching career while he finishes his doctoral work at Boston University on spatialization in the piano music of Claude Debussy. Having joined the 蓝莓视频 music faculty in 2019 as Visiting Lecturer in Piano, Mr. Thomas oversees and teaches Applied, Studio, and Class Piano.
