Theatre Minor: A Journey into the Performing Arts

The Theatre Minor offers students a comprehensive and flexible 21-credit curriculum designed to engage them in the diverse aspects of theatrical arts. The program encompasses key areas of study, including Theatre History, Dramatic Literature, Performance, Design, and Technical Theatre. Students explore the historical and cultural evolution of theatre, analyze dramatic works from a range of periods and traditions, and develop practical skills in acting, directing, and stagecraft. Hands-on opportunities in technical theatre and design allow students to engage with the creative and logistical elements of production, while electives provide the freedom to tailor the minor to individual interests. This balanced curriculum fosters both critical understanding and artistic expression, equipping students with valuable skills for careers in the performing arts and related fields.

Course Requirements

Requirements for the Theatre Minor - 21 Credits

 

Required Minor Courses

One course from each of the following areas:

E) Technical Theatre:

 

Electives

Students must take one or two additional elective theatre courses - as necessary to achieve the required 21 credit hours - to be chosen from the Required Theatre Arts Core Curriculum, from the Tracks of Study or from the Approved Theatre Arts Elective Courses.

Approved Theatre Elective Courses

Students may petition to substitute courses from this list of electives to satisfy the core curriculum or the Performance or Design/Technology track requirements. Approval will be granted by the student’s faculty advisor and the department chair, provided such substitutions satisfy the depth, breadth, and specificity of study required by the Theatre Arts program.

Take Center Stage: Hands-On Theatre Training and Real-World Opportunities

Experience hands-on learning and personalized mentorship in theatre at À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ. Build skills in acting, directing, design, and writing while preparing for careers in theatre or further studies. Work closely with faculty who are active professionals in New York and New England, receiving guidance on portfolios and career paths. Gain real-world experience through internships, guest speakers, and events like the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. Participate in faculty-directed productions and student-led projects, all with individualized support to help you reach your goals.
